When adjusting reverse band clearance
The transmission must be setting flat on the bench or be in the car. Do not attempt to adjust the band with the transmission standing on its end. - Documents

This kit is designed to be installed when the transmission is on the bench in order to sand the drum
If the transmission is in the car, you will still get a big improvement without sanding the drum, but, it you want perfection—sand the drum
